Ineos eyeing mind-boggling move for former United manager to replace Amorim – report

Ruben Amorim is under increasing pressure at Manchester United after a poor start to the new season.

The Red Devils are winless in their first three games, and have been knocked out of the League Cup by Grimsby Town, the first time the Premier League giants have lost to a fourth-tier team in the competition.

After his side’s embarrassing defeat on penalties, Amorim suggested “something has to change.”

Man United players question Amorim’s methods

On Thursday, it emerged that the United head coach is under “severe pressure” and his tactics and man-management are being “questioned by some” in the United dressing room.

At the moment, INEOS continue to back their head coach, who remains in charge of United ahead of their clash against Burnley.

However, a failure to produce a dominant performance against the newly-promoted side this weekend may intensify question marks over his position.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have drawn up a list of potential replacements should they pull the trigger on Amorim.

Jose Mourinho could return to Manchester United

According to Fichajes, Jose Mourinho is one of the names on United’s shortlist.

The former United manager has been relieved of his duties as manager of Fenerbahce. As per the Spanish outlet, he could “return” to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is “being touted as a direct alternative” to Amorim as there is a feeling at United that the legendary Portuguese could “bring character and competitiveness” back into the dressing room.

The 61-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League. However, considering his underwhelming and chaotic stint in Turkey, it is very unlikely INEOS would place their trust in him to steady the ship in Manchester. As such, it is advised to take the claim with a pinch of salt.

Interestingly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also back on the manager market after parting ways with Besiktas. Still, there’s nothing to suggest he is currently on United’s radar.
