Old Trafford fell silent to remember the extraordinary life of Denis Law, ahead of kick-off against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Piper Terry Carr led the two teams out and there was a sombre tone as we all paid tribute to the brilliant Scottish striker.
Fans young and old, and those in the away end, showed their respect for a giant of a footballer, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1964.
As the crowd fell hush, announcer Alan Keegan read a poignant poem.

It read:
Denis Law: The King of the Stretford End. Rest in peace.
A warrior born on Scotland’s land,
Who rose to rule with a master’s hand.
The Stretford End, his loyal throne,
Where Denis Law made greatness known.
The Lawman struck with poise and grace,
A predator’s instinct, the perfect pace.
With every goal, the terraces sang,
His name on their lips, the anthem rang.
A flick, a volley, a header supreme, Denis turned football into a dream.
The King of Old Trafford, fierce and true,
In red, he soared, the world he slew.
Yet beyond the goals, the man stood tall,
A heart of gold that inspired all.
Though trophies shone, his pride was clear—
For the fans, he played year after year.
Now time has passed, but memories stay,
The legend of Law won’t fade away.
For every chant, for every friend,
He’s still the King of the Stretford End.
Warm applause then rang out from all around the ground, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Law’s former team-mates Alex Stepney, Paddy Crerand and Brian Kidd joining in from the pitch, after laying a wreath in the centre-circle.
Denis will never be forgotten at Old Trafford and he will remain very much in our thoughts.
