Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, who becomes their first signing of this summer.
The Brazilian was signed for £62.5 million, his release clause, and has penned an agreement until 2030 with the club holding the option of an additional year.
The 26-year-old was delighted to complete the move, revealing that the Red Devils were always his favourite English club when he was a child and it was a dream for him to wear the famous red jersey.
“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.
Matheus Cunha on United move
“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top,” he told the official club website.
Director of football Jason Wilcox was equally delighted upon the deal’s completion, explaining how Matheus Cunha was the perfect profile for Ruben Amorim’s system.

He also said that the Brazil international’s Premier League experience would stand him in good stead, and INEOS were delighted to get a deal for him over the line so quickly.
“Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window.
“He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany.
Wilcox delighted
“He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”
Cunha had an incredible last season for Wolves, netting 17 times while also registering six assists. His performances against the 20-time English league champions impressed the head coach immensely.
The former Atletico Madrid ace can play all across the frontline, and his eye for a goal and creativity will be hugely useful for United next season.
INEOS’ plans include signing two attacking midfielders this summer, and now, they will focus on trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as quickly as possible.
