Former Manchester United star Eric Bailly is now a free agent after he was released by Villarreal.
Bailly joined United in 2016 from Villarreal. His signing was sanctioned by former club boss Jose Mourinho.
His time at Old Trafford was far from ideal, as he was unable to nail down a run of form and regular starting berth due to consistently occurring injuries.
However, he still won over supporters with his no-nonsense defending and humorous personality.
The Ivorian made 113 appearances for the Red Devils, helping them to win the EFL Cup (Carabao Cup), FA Community Shield and the UEFA Europa League.
Bailly parted ways with United in 2023 following a loan stint at Marseille. He then joined Besiktas on a free transfer before returning to Villarreal in January 2024 to provide cover after their backline was ravaged by injuries.
Earlier on Tuesday, Villareal released a statement that read, “Villarreal CF and Eric Bailly part ways after a season and a half in his second spell with the Yellows.”

Bailly also took to his social media to confirm the news while bidding farewell to Villarreal and the club’s supporters.
The 31-year-old wrote, “Dear Villarreal family, Today, I must say goodbye, for the second time, to what will always be my home. This season and a half has been truly special for me, filled with hard work, commitment, and emotion.”
“Returning to Villarreal felt like reuniting with my family, and I leave with a light heart. Huge thanks to Marcelino, who welcomed me warmly from day one. To the Roig family, for believing in me once again. And above all, thank you to the supporters for your unwavering support at every match, every moment, through thick and thin.”
“To my teammates and all the club staff: it has been an honor to share every day with you. Thank you for making me feel like one of your own, for the camaraderie, the laughter, and the daily work.
