Juventus join race for explosive 21-yo United target well-known to Amorim and Matthijs de Ligt – report

Juventus are reportedly planning to switch their attention to Porto striker and Manchester United target Samu Aghehowa in case they fail to land Endrick of Real Madrid.

United are on the hunt for a striker after a 2024/25 season where goals were painfully hard to come by.

The Red Devils are believed to have a transfer wishlist that includes players such as Victor Osimhen (Napoli), Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Moise Kean (Fiorentina) and Aghehowa.

Aghehowa joined Porto from Atletico Madrid last summer after his proposed switch to Chelsea fell through at the final hurdle.

This setback didn’t deter the forward, who enjoyed a superb campaign despite Porto’s domestic struggles. He plundered an impressive 19 goals and three assists in 30 Liga Portugal appearances. Samu notched 25 goals across all competitions.

He further enhanced his reputation in the Club World Cup, netting two goals in three games before their elimination from the competition.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are among a host of Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on Aghehowa.

There have also been claims that Ruben Amorim, who knows Aghehowa well from his time coaching Sporting CP in Portugal’s top-flight, is driving United’s pursuit of the 21-year-old.

United already know what Aghehowa is capable of, having seen him up-close and in action during the 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto. He was a threat all evening and particularly troubled Matthijs de Ligt. Aghehowa scored twice.

If United intend to press forward with a deal for the player, then it appears they will need to ward off competition from Juventus.

According to A Bola, the Old Lady have earmarked Aghehowa as their top alternative in case they are unable to get a transfer for Endrick over the line. It’s understood Juventus tried to sign Aghehowa towards the end of last year but they were unsuccessful.

This information is backed by Correio da Manhã, who add that Aston Villa and Newcastle are also in the running to land the Spaniard’s signature.

Samu has a reported €100 million release clause contained in his contract with Porto, so he won’t come cheap.
