Official: United confirm departure of key member of Amorim’s backroom staff

Manchester United have confirmed the exit of first-team coach Andreas Georgson after 10 months at the club.

Georgson joined United in the capacity of set-piece coach in July last year. He left his role as head coach of Norwegian team Lillestrom to join Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff.

After Ten Hag’s dismissal in October and Ruben Amorim’s appointment as the Dutchman’s successor, Georgston was retained as part of the coaching set-up.

However, United have now confirmed that the Swede has parted ways with the club.

Georgson said, “It has been a fantastic experience, serving as first-team coach at Manchester United, and I will always be proud of my association with such a great football club.”

“This period of my career has now come to an end, as I leave to find a new challenge elsewhere. While excited about the opportunities ahead, I am sad to be leaving so many great colleagues and friends at Carrington, who make Manchester United truly special.”

“Even during such a tough season, the professionalism and dedication of the players and staff never wavered, and I know there will be better times ahead.”

“I want to thank Jason [Wilcox], Ruben [Amorim] and Erik [ten hag] for the opportunities they gave me, and wish everyone at the club the best of luck for the future.”

United’s technical director Jason Wilcox remarked, “Andreas has been a valued member of our men’s first-team coaching set-up over the past year, and we are grateful for his significant contribution.”

“He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the next stage of his career.”

According to the Manchester Evening News, Georgson was not present during the club’s post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong.

His decision not to travel with the squad came after talks with Amorim and Wilcox.

It’s understood that Georgson chose to leave United after concluding that the new coaching set-up didn’t provide sufficient room for him to focus on his original role—set-piece coaching.

Amorim’s assistant, Carlos Fernandes, is currently the man in charge of set pieces.
