Official: Man United confirm midfield talent James Scanlon has sealed loan move to Swindon Town

Manchester United have confirmed that James Scanlon has completed a move to Swindon Town, where he will spend the remainder of the season. Scanlon’s rise Scanlon has enjoyed a steady rise in United’s youth system since joining the club in February 2021 from Derby County. He signed scholarship terms with United in July 2023. He was handed his first professional contract with the 20-time English champions in 2024. Scanlon has trained with the first team multiple times but he is still waiting to make his senior bow. He was part of Erik ten Hag’s pre-season squad in the United States that summer. Later that year, his form was rewarded as he was named Best Forward at the prestigious Otten Cup youth tournament. The 19-year-old made history by becoming the first United player to represent Gibraltar. After making his senior international debut in March 2024, he scored his first goal that September, setting dual records as Gibraltar’s youngest-ever goalscorer and the youngest scorer in UEFA Nations League history. He earned his first inclusion in a senior United matchday squad in March last year, selected for the Europa League fixture against Real Sociedad. Earlier on Monday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Scanlon was closing in on a deadline-day switch to Swindon. Now, United have confirmed the transfer. Swindon move sealed and delivered United have released a statement which reads, “Manchester United forward James Scanlon has secured a first loan move of his career.” “The 19-year-old is joining League Two side Swindon Town for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.” United add, “Best of luck to James for the rest of the season!” Swindon currently lie in sixth place in League Two and are pushing for promotion to League One.
