Official: Flying United star shortlisted for two elite awards after his January heroics

Manchester United player Patrick Dorgu has been nominated for two elite awards after a brilliant January. Excellent form Dorgu has been one of the biggest beneficiaries since Ruben Amorim’s departure, reaching new heights under both Darren Fletcher and current interim head coach Michael Carrick. The Dane registered a sublime assist in the 2-2 draw with Burnley, delivering a brilliant low cross inside the danger area that was turned in by Benjamin Sesko. Dorgu followed that up by scoring the second goal in United’s dominant 2-0 win over cross-town rivals Manchester City. He demonstrated great instincts and determination to power past Rico Lewis and guide Matheus Cunha’s ball into the back of the net. The former Lecce man rounded off January in superb style, netting a banger in the sensational 3-2 triumph against Arsenal at the Emirates. He found the top corner with a screamer following a smooth exchange between himself and Bruno Fernandes. Unfortunately for Dorgu, he picked up an injury in the Arsenal game which ruled him out of last weekend’s Fulham game. He is expected to be out for 10 weeks. He was named United’s Player of the Month, and on Thursday, the Premier League shortlisted him for its own version of the award. Dorgu recognised To win the prize, Dorgu will have to ward off competition from seven rivals: Yasin Ayari (Brighton & Hove Albion), Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea), Eli Junior Kroupi (Bournemouth), Crysencio Summerville (West Ham United), Igor Thiago (Brentford), Harry Wilson (Fulham) and Florian Wirtz (Liverpool). You can vote for Dorgu here. It’s not the only award the 21-year-old is in the running for. His strike vs. Arsenal is in the frame for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month accolade. However, he faces competition from his own teammate, as Cunha is also in contention courtesy of his match-winning goal in the same fixture. Cunha came on from the bench and fired a curling effort past a stretching David Raya to secure all three points for the Red Devils. You can vote for Dorgu and Cunha here.  The winners of the two awards will be announced on Friday 13 February, at 11:00 GMT.
