Official: Ex-United chief lands new top job at Championship club after Ratcliffe’s cold-blooded dismissal

Former Manchester United technical chief scout Mick Court has landed a new top job at Ipswich Town.

Court was made redundant at United

Court was one of the very unfortunate members of staff who lost their jobs at United during Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first round of redundancies last year.

When Ratcliffe took operational control of United, one of his main priorities was trimming the club’s bloated workforce.

He implemented two rounds of job cuts and even football personnel like Court were not spared.

Court spent close to two decades at United in various recruitment positions before being promoted to technical chief scout in April 2019, following an almost 11-year stint as performance recruitment analyst.

On Thursday afternoon, Ipswich released a statement confirming Court has joined their backroom staff.

Ipswich appoint Court

Ipswich’s statement reads, “The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Mick Court as Director of Recruitment.”

“Mick brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent the best part of two decades working in senior recruitment roles at Manchester United, with his appointment another step in the evolution of the club’s player recruitment team.”

“Mick’s appointment follows Dmitri Halajko’s promotion to Director of Football Operations and Ben Chenery’s appointment as Academy Manager, at a time when the club’s Academy has moved to Category One status.”

Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton remarked, “We are delighted to appoint Mick to such an important role at the club.”

“He brings top-level experience which will significantly enhance our growing recruitment team, with his appointment the latest in a number of important moves which highlight our commitment to building the best-possible staff across all areas of the club.”

“Recruitment is such an important area and is one we will continue to invest in as we move the club forward.”

Court has been reunited with former United colleagues Kieran McKenna and Martyn Pert.
