Most reports indicate Manchester United are eyeing attacking reinforcements, but there is still scope for defensive improvement.
Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans have left, and both Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw do not have the best of injury records.
Add the fact that Lisandro Martinez will miss the start of the new season and could be in line for a positional change, it makes sense for United to try and strengthen at the back.
One player on the club’s radar is Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo. He has been scouted extensively by the club.
Pietro Comuzzo recently signed long-term deal
It was suggested that the Italian was beyond his suitors’ reach after he recently signed a contract extension up till 2029. But that does not seem to be the case as relayed by Sport Witness.
They have cited TuttoMercatoWeb and claimed that multiple Premier League sides — Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and the Red Devils are showing “strong interest” in the 20-year-old.
The centre-back made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, helping keep 11 clean-sheets in total while also registering a goal.
Recently Fiorentina manager Stefano Pioli praised the young defender, which explains why no club is yet to submit a concrete proposal as yet.
United remain interested
Whether Fiorentina will sell their highly-rated wonderkid remains to be seen. He has a current market value of €25 million as per Transfermarkt.
But he is likely to cost a lot more given the new long-term contract. And that is what might rule out an approach this summer.
INEOS are not exactly flush with cash. They are currently dependant on player sales to complete any further incomings.
The co-owners seem to have their eyes on players with potential instead of proven stars, with Eivind Helland another defensive name on the club’s radar.
On top of that, the SK Brann wonderkid is expected to cost a lot less than the Italian wonderkid.
