“Move now downplayed”: United cool interest in key target with bid “currently unlikely” to be made – report

A huge transfer update has been provided amidst speculation that Manchester United are pursuing Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

United set to intensify striker search

Having wrapped up a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, United are now set to turn their attention towards securing the services of a top-class striker.

Rasmus Hojlund endured another difficult season at United and it’s crystal clear that the Dane currently doesn’t have what it takes to regularly lead the line for the Red Devils.

There is a general consensus that United need more quality up front and having missed out on first-choice target Liam Delap, the Red Devils have been forced to get creative.

One talisman who has seemingly popped up on their radar in recent weeks is Jackson.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United made an enquiry for the Chelsea striker, who is valued at €70m.

A subsequent report claimed that United were considering a shocking swap deal for Jackson, which would see unwanted star Alejandro Garnacho head the other way.

More recently, there were suggestions that the Red Devils held talks with Jackson’s agent Ali Barat over a potential move this summer.

A lot needs to happen in terms of outgoings for United but one that could happen in the right circumstances. Worth noting Chelsea have long-term interest in Garnacho. pic.twitter.com/SZhRHjMKoE

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Jackson does not feature too highly on United’s list and a swoop is unlikely.

Jacobs clarifies United’s links to Jackson

Jacobs wrote on X, “Understand Manchester United are currently unlikely to bid for Nicolas Jackson.”

“A lot would have to change for that to alter in the coming weeks.”

“Not impossible due to respect for the Chelsea striker, whose name has come up internally, but a possible move now downplayed as it stands.”

Jackson netted 13 goals and provided an additional six assists in 37 appearances for Chelsea during the 2024/25 campaign.
