Mourinho instructs Fenerbahce board to make stunning move for surprise Man Utd whiz after fresh Amorim admission

Jose Mourinho has been eyeing up players from one of his former clubs to potentially bolster his Fenerbahce ranks this summer.

According to Milliyet, the Portuguese coach has set his sights on a surprise swoop for Manchester United wantaway Alejandro Garnacho, who’s expected to have played his final game in red.

The outlet claims Garnacho is now ‘on the agenda’ for the Turkish outfit, and they have not been deterred by his £40-45 million price tag. This comes after Fenerbahce agreed a deal to sign forward Marco Asensio before the prospective transfer hit a roadblock due to the financial terms involved.

They subsequently turned their attention to Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz, but quickly learned that an agreement this transfer window would be ‘impossible’. Alas, they have landed on Garnacho.

Despite the youngster being linked with a host of clubs since the start of the summer, United have yet to actually receive any formal offers or approaches.

This morning’s report suggests one could be imminent in INEOS’ inbox. However, it is highly likely that it’ll be instantly rebuffed, as Garnacho has made clear his desire to remain in the Premier League next season.

Garnacho holding out for Chelsea switch

As such, it’s thought he is waiting on Chelsea’s call after Fabrizio Romano verified the Blues’ long-standing interest in Garnacho.

They are expected to ignite their pursuit once they’ve finalised a deal for Xavi Simons, after which the 21-year-old livewire will be next on the to-do list.

Ruben Amorim also opened the door to the player’s exit when speaking to the media over the weekend. When pressed on Garnacho’s situation and future, he told reporters: “You can see he’s a really talented boy. Sometimes things don’t work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is, but it’s clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. I can understand that.”
