Mason Mount’s long-range effort against Athletic Club has been voted our Goal of the Month for May.
The final goal of our 4-1 Europa League semi-final second-leg win left the Stretford End in awe, as Mason lofted a delightful effort over both Unai Nunez and Julen Agirrezabala to round off a brilliant display in M16.
Having been handed possession by Agirrezabala, the England international needed only one touch to set himself, before launching a drive from 40 yards that dropped into the back of the net.

Netting his third goal of the season and second at Old Trafford, our no.7 has fought back from injury to impress for Ruben Amorim’s men.
Although we expect to see more of him in 2025/26, there is no overplaying his strike against Athletic Club, which he described as a pivotal moment in his career at United so far.
“When I saw him [the goalkeeper] come out, I had it in my head if it comes to me, ‘first touch and shoot’,” Mason began when speaking to TNT Sports.
“I didn’t want it to come on my left foot and then I was just trying to get it on target, same with the first goal, create the turn and try to get it in the net.
“The crowd has been unbelievable, they have stuck with us. For me, these were my first goals at Old Trafford, a night I’ve been waiting a long time for.”
Despite the Reds coming up short in the Europa League final, Mason will reflect on a strong end to the campaign on a personal note, and he was impressive in the final post-season friendly against Hong Kong, China.
