Monstrous defender set to fly to Manchester for medical as United’s 2nd signing is “finalised” – Di Marzio

Manchester United and Lecce will “close the deal” for Patrick Dorgu today with the Danish international set to fly to England tomorrow for a medical.

Italian football expert Gianluca Di Marzio reveals the Red Devils are “finalising the details” of the €37.5 million move for Dorgu – €30 million up front with €7.5m in bonuses.

Interestingly, fellow transfer guru Fabrizio Romano contends the deal is worth €35 million in a similar formulation – €30 million base fee with €5 million in potential add-ons.

It remains to be seen which of the Italian reporters is correct, but the delicate financial situation at Old Trafford – due to the acute pressure of PSR – means every penny counts for United this month.

Regardless, the protracted pursuit of Dorgu, who emerged as the club’s number one target for the vacant left wing-back position this month, was finally realised yesterday, after the Reds had seen two opening bids rejected by the Italian club.

Di Marzio writes, “Manchester United and Lecce are finalizing the details of the Patrick Dorgu deal. The deal should be finalized today.”

The Sky Sports reporter further reveals, “the 2004-born player will be able to fly to England to begin his new adventure. Patrick Dorgu is expected in Manchester on Thursday, January 30, then he will undergo medical tests and sign the contract.”

The completion of a medical and the agreement of personal terms are expected to be a formality. Dorgu is not suffering from any injury concerns and the Dane is reported to have already agreed a salary with United officials during earlier negotiations.

The 20-year-old wing-back, who has often played as a right-winger for Lecce this season such is his versatile skillset, will then become the “first signing of the Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United.”

The Portuguese coach is believed to have personally approved Dorgu as a target with the Danish international’s potent pairing of speed, size, and strength offering a significant upgrade to a squad lacking in all three areas.

Amorim has struggled to find a suitable option to play the left wing-back role since arriving at Old Trafford. Neither Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia are able to handle the demands of the role, forcing the former Sporting manager to deploy Diogo Dalot out of position.

The 39-year-old coach will be delighted to welcome yet another talented young defender like Dorgu to his ranks when the Dane steps off the plane from Italy tomorrow, after it was revealed yesterday morning United had agreed “personal terms” with 18-year-old Arsenal defender Ayden Heaven to buttress Amorim’s defensive unit as well.
