Mbeumo offered promising flashes, but this United star was hands down the best player on the pitch vs. Fiorentina

Manchester United beat Fiorentina on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, wrapping up their final pre-season match ahead of the start of the new campaign. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Altay Bayindir 6 – Didn’t have a lot to do. No chance with Fiorentina’s opener, but did well to make a save during the shootout.

Leny Yoro 8 – Outstanding again! Played a big role in United’s equaliser. Solid in defence and neutralised the tricky Moise Kean more than once. Superb on the ball and barely put a foot wrong. An incredible outing.

Harry Maguire 7 – Led the three-man defence well and had a cracking shot at goal, forcing David de Gea into a good save.

Ayden Heaven 6 – Good performance. Went about his job with minimum fuss and dominated physically.

Amad 6 – Saw plenty of the ball and produced some good bits but it always felt he could kick up one or two more extra gears and really become explosive, as we’ve seen numerous times over the past few months. Linked up well with Mbeumo. Calm panenka penalty in the shootout.

Casemiro 5- Mixed game. Some good moments but also recklessly lost possession on a few occasions and it’s clear to see he was struggling with the pace of the game.

Bruno Fernandes 6.5 – Slow start to the game but came alive as it progressed, especially in the second half. Tried to make things happen in a bid to give United the lead but not much came off.

Patrick Dorgu 4 – His most underwhelming game during what has been a very good pre-season for the Dane. Didn’t get forward nearly as often as he did in the past few games and made some mistakes in possession.

Matheus Cunha 6.5 – Recovered after an uneasy start in which he was on the fringes. Grew into proceedings and added something different to United’s attack, with his clever movements and brilliant passes. Came close to netting his first goal for the club when Fernandes squared the ball to him but he couldn’t quite hit the target.

Bryan Mbeumo 7 – All-action display. Sensational first-touch and remarkable set-piece deliveries. Worked well with Amad, at times forcing Fiorentina to double up on him. He’ll be unreal for United once he gets to full fitness.

Mason Mount 7 – Pressed aggressively, winning the ball for United in very promising positions. Up front is not his best position but he led the line capably.

Substitutes

Kobbie Mainoo 6 – Seamlessly slotted into the middle of the park, injecting some calm and composure. Scored the winning spot-kick.

Diogo Dalot 5 – Didn’t do much during the time he was on the pitch.

Luke Shaw 6 – Helped shut Fiorentina out for the rest of the match. The visitors had some sights of goal but were thwarted.

Matthijs de Ligt 6 – Same as Shaw,

Manuel Ugarte 5 – On the field for a very limited period.
