Mason Mount will earn plaudits but this unplayable star was the real difference maker in big victory

Manchester United crushed AFC Bournemouth 4-1 in the second game of the Premier League Summer series. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Tom Heaton 7 – The veteran didn’t have much to do but was called into action with a good stop at his near post from Dango Ouattara in the first half. He also got down well to stop Antoine Semenyo’s close-range effort.

Diogo Dalot 6 – Had a quiet evening where he was outshone in attack by Patrick Dorgu. Didn’t really put a foot wrong but wasn’t very noticeable on the pitch

Harry Maguire 4 – The Englishman almost got caught in possession a couple of times and seemed a little slow footed at times. Was subbed off at half-time for Matthijs de Ligt.

Leny Yoro 6 – The youngster was proactive pressing on the front foot, broke into midfield and delivered some nice forward passes. His game quietened down after first 20 minutes but didn’t put a foot wrong.

Luke Shaw 6 – He made a last ditch lunge to break up a Bournemouth attack, had an injury scare on 30 minutes and lost Evanilson in the box but he luckily mistimed a free header.

Patrick Dorgu 9 -Provided a wonderful assist for Rasmus Hojlund with his weaker foot. Incredible half got even better as he scored a great one-on-one to open his account for the Red Devils. Kept up his hard work in the second without as much attacking threat.

Casemiro 5- He was a bit slow in possession and got caught out on more than one occasion. He did show some nice touches though in the build up.

Bruno Fernandes 7 – The captain was everywhere in his 70 minutes on the pitch. Some bright pressing and one touch passing was on show. He got through some effective defensive work breaking up the Cherries’ attacking attempts.

Amad 7 – The Ivorian was quieter than usual and whilst had some nice touches, was also balanced with some uncharacteristically lose ones as well. Made up for it with a great finish in the second half to put the Reds 3-0 up in the torrential rain, as he grew in importance in the match.

Mason Mount 8 – Lively, quick-thinking led to a rapid free kick that set up Dorgu’s goal. Had a good chance to score but fired over erratically. Almost scored from a free kick early in second half and got through some nice defensive work.

Rasmus Hojlund 6 – Had the perfect start with a glancing header to open the scoring. Struggled to get involved in game and made a few misplaced passes throughout, failing to build on his earlier momentum.

Substitutes

Matthijs de Ligt 7 – The Dutchman made a big defensive effort to block David Brooks effort onto the crossbar and gave his all as usual. Also, almost scored a header from a deep Mount corner. Was unlucky to score a late own goal.

Ethan Williams 7 – Came on and had a massive impact, scoring almost immediately after some nice footwork in the box. Was generally quiet after.

Diego Leon 7 – Showed his energy and fight by carrying the ball forward well, leading to Williams’ strike.

Manuel Ugarte 6 – Did nothing wrong and kept his position well to see out the result for the team.

Chido Obi 6 – Broke forward well, showing some nice skill but unfortunately fired over when he should have kept his cool.

Kobbie Mainoo 6 – Carried the ball effectively on occasion and kept the play ticking over in the dying embers of the match.

Ayden Heaven 7 – The youngster continues to impress, showing composure under pressure and some nice touches to fill United fans with hope.

Toby Collyer 6- Kept it simple, broke up play well on occasion.

Bendito Mantato 6- Worked hard down the right but struggled to get involved.

Tyler Fredricson 6 – Wasn’t called upon to make any real contribution.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
