Darren Fletcher has addressed the media in his first press conference as interim manager of Manchester United. Fletcher was speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow evening’s Premier League encounter with Burnley at Turf Moor. The first question was obvious: how was he feeling? “Surreal,” Fletcher replied. “It is an amazing honour to lead a United team. It was not in my wildest dreams. Something I am really proud to do but not in the circumstances I wanted, it doesn’t sit easy with me.” He was then asked if INEOS had given him any indication of how long he would be in charge. “Focus on this game and then speak afterwards,” he said. “Focus is on Burnley and then we will speak.” Was he hopeful of winning the permanent job? “Honestly it is not what I have thought about. Focusing on Burnley, all the concentration is on that.” Darren was then asked about his backroom team. “Travis Binnion is beside me, we have such a close relationship, Alan Wright his assistant will help me, as will Jonny Evans,” he confirmed. The next question was where does he feel the club is at right now. “For a game it is to win a match vs Burnley. My focus and energy has been to do the best for United. Help the club, the people I work with, the staff. Everyone expects United to be winning, that’s the standard.” Asked about injuries, Fletcher had some good news to impart. “Obviously as Ruben mentioned, Mason Mount and Bruno were pushing to play and they have trained and will be back in the squad. But we’ll have to manage their minutes as they’re just coming back.” A cheeky reporter also asked if his sons, Jack and Tyler Fletcher, would be in the starting line-up. “I will not be disclosing team information,” he said. “They were in the training group but we will assess a couple of players tomorrow. They are in the periphery but we will have to see.” Finally, he was asked what his Manchester United will look like. “I hope it resembles a United team who fans can be proud of,” he said. “We have a lot of quality in that team. It is about them, not me.” Featured image Michael Steele via Getty images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
