Man Utd Star’s Future Takes Fresh Twist As Report Reveals He Is ‘Willing’ To Take £80K p/w Pay Cut To Stay

BACK Man Utd defender Harry Maguire is “willing” to take a pay cut of around £80,000 a week in order to remain at Old Trafford, according to reports. The 32-year-old’s contract with the Red Devils expires this summer, but The I Paper claim he is open to staying on a reduced salary. Maguire is reportedly earning between £190,000 and £200,000 a week at the moment, but the club are looking at ways of cutting their wage bill. Casemiro’s departure has already been confirmed, despite the fact that United do have an option to extend his stay for another 12 months. However, the Brazilian’s exit will save them £350,000 a week. Combined with both Jadon Sancho and (potentially) Marcus Rashford’s salary being taken off the payroll, that would free up nearly £900,000 a week. If Maguire also goes, that would take the total over £1m. Maguire’s future has not been decided Unlike Casemiro, the hierarchy are not quite sure what to do with the England international. He is playing regularly at the moment, and the willingness to lower his salary could tempt them to table a contract extension. Maguire does have interest from elsewhere, with clubs in Italy said to be keeping close tabs on his situation. He can already sign a pre-contract agreement with teams abroad, but it appears as if his priority is to stay where he is. Man Utd may need to make a decision on Fernandes too The captain has one more year left on his contract, so his situation is not quite as urgent as Maguire’s. However, there are suggestions that he will demand upwards of £400,000 a week if United do want him to stay beyond 2027. Discussions with Fernandes and his representatives are reportedly expected to take place right before the World Cup in June. Want more news on Man Utd?
