Man Utd ready to send first-team star away for free after FA Cup elimination

Manchester United are reportedly considering sending their midfielder, Toby Collyer, on a free loan spell to Hull City. The 22-year-old is a Brighton youth product who joined Man Utd’s academy in 2022. The Worthing made his senior debut under Erik ten Hag last season. At one stage, he became a regular feature in the middle of the park with Ruben Amorim in charge, even usurping Casemiro in the pecking order. However, with the Brazilian veteran regaining his form, the young Englishman was dropped to the bench in the final months of the previous campaign. United eventually decided to send Collyer on loan to West Bromwich Albion last summer.Toby Collyer fate shrouded in mysteryThe midfielder couldn’t carve out a starting role with the Baggies. He made 12 appearances in the Championship, but only three from the first minute.Sadly for Collyer, his campaign went from bad to worse after suffering a serious calf injury that has ruled him out of action since November. Man Utd thus decided to recall the player to oversee his rehabilitation, thus cutting his West Brom stint short.(Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)In recent days, it had been suggested that Collyer would rather dwell at Carrington for the remainder of the season rather than join another club on loan in January. However,  United’s early FA Cup exit at the hands of Brighton may have dashed any remaining hopes on that front. With the team only competing in the Premier League, imminent MUFC manager Michael Carrick might not require extra bodies in midfield, so Collyer will be sent on his way.Man Utd to sanction free Collyer loan to Hull City? The Englishman has been recently linked with Hull City, but as The Athletic notes, the Championship club won’t be able to pay the customary loan fee due to their transfer embargo.Nevertheless, the source believes this wouldn’t be a major issue should United decide that Hull is the best destination for the player’s development. In other words, the Reds would allow him to join the Tigers on a free loan until the end of the season. If Carrick decides to deploy Bruno Fernandes in his original attacking midfielder role, he would still have enough options in the double pivot, mainly Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, and the Fletcher twins, Jack and Tyler.
