Man Utd believe they can fund a nine-figure offer for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali by offloading up to three members of the first-team squad, according to reports. The I Paper claim that Tonali has moved up the shortlist of midfield targets ahead of the summer transfer window, but the Italian international’s asking price could exceed £100m. In addition to Champions League prize money, the Red Devils are hoping to raise more funds by ensuring Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford leave on a permanent basis, whilst also finding a buyer for Manuel Ugarte. If the trio do depart Old Trafford, it could finance a sizeable bid for Tonali, who is seen as a perfect partner for Kobbie Mainoo and a suitable replacement for Casemiro. Hojlund is expected to join Napoli The Denmark international will sign for the current Serie A champions on a permanent deal at the end of the season for £38m if they qualify for the Champions League. Will Rashford make the switch to Barcelona? Unlike Napoli’s agreement for Hojlund, which is effectively an obligation to buy based on certain conditions, Barcelona are not required to snap up Rashford. Speaking about the situation earlier this week, Barca president Joan Laporta said: “We will try, in Barca’s interest, to ensure that Marcus Rashford can continue with us beyond this season…Marcus is performing very well with assists and goals, we’re happy. We could extend the loan further. It depends on what [sporting director] Deco wants.,There are formulas, such as paying part of the buy option to Manchester United and figuring out the rest later.” Want more news on Man Utd?
