Man Utd Get Major Boost As £45M Rated Midfield Target Makes Transfer ‘U-Turn’ – Report

BACK David Tully Nov 14th 2025 Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher is ready to push for a move to Man Utd, according to reports. Up until recently, the England international was happy to stay with his current team after settling into life in Spain. However, Gallagher’s limited minutes in recent weeks mean he is now worried about his chances of making England’s squad for next year’s World Cup. United In Focus claim that the former Chelsea player has performed a “U-turn” on leaving Atletico before the end of the season, leaving the way clear for United to make a bid for him during the January transfer window. Gallagher’s lack of game time Since moving to Atletico in August 2024, the 25-year-old has been used as a rotation option by head coach Diego Simeone. However, Gallagher has increasingly been used as a substitute, especially in the league. He hasn’t been named in the first eleven for a La Liga match since the 3-2 win over Rayo Vallecano in September. His only other start came on the opening day of the campaign when he was substituted at halftime during a 2-1 defeat to Espanyol. Man Utd could offer a loan with a purchase clause It was reported earlier this week that the Red Devils do retain an interest in Gallagher. They tried and failed to sign him on loan in the last few days of the summer transfer window, but it looks like they may try a slightly different approach in January. While a loan offer is still the most likely possibility, they may look to tempt Atletico by including an option to buy for around £45m. That figure is £11m more than the £34m that the Spanish side originally paid for the midfielder at the start of last season.
