Man Utd Eye ‘Blockbuster’ Move For £65M PL Star But Amorim Plans To Use Him In Surprise New Position

BACK Man Utd are weighing up a “blockbuster” January bid for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, according to reports. The Ghanaian international has a release clause in his contract that is worth £65m, and it can be triggered when the transfer window opens. TEAMtalk claim the Red Devils are interested in bringing Semenyo to Old Trafford, although they are in two minds over whether to make an approach. They would reportedly prefer to wait until the summer, as the priority for January is a new midfielder. Spending a sizeable sum on Semenyo would limit their ability to strengthen in the middle of the park. However, there is a good chance that Semenyo will be snapped up by another team if they don’t make their move next month. Man Utd will have to battle 3 other Premier League clubs Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are also circling Semenyo and there is a high probability that the trio will make offers in January. The Red Devils may be forced into making a decision on tabling a bid earlier than they would like. Why does Amorim want to sign Semenyo? Considering the amount of money that was spent on the forward line last summer, fans have been questioning whether recruiting the 25-year-old is worthwhile, especially as the midfield is in greater need of reinforcements at the moment. However, TEAMtalk believe head coach Ruben Amorim could be looking to convert Semenyo into a wingback in a similar vein to Amad Diallo. The United boss has commented recently that he is lacking inverted options on the left flank, and considering Semenyo is predominantly right-footed, he would be able to play on that wing. Whether the player himself is open to a positional change, though, is another matter entirely.
