Man United Will ‘Do Everything’ To Keep “Outstanding” Star as Surprise £57m Release Clause Revealed

BACK Dylan Oakley Apr 1st 2026 Man United could see one of their top players leave in the summer due to an expiring contract. Man United went into the international break after a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, which left them third in the Premier League table. Bruno Fernandes scored his eighth goal of the season during the game. Before that, Michael Carrick’s side came off a 3-1 win against Aston Villa, in which Bruno Fernandes was able to provide two assists during the game, breaking David Beckham’s assist record for Man United of 100 assists in his United career. Fernandes’ contract is due to expire at the end of next season, meaning that he could leave in the summer if United don’t decide to extend his contract. He would be a huge loss for the Red Devils. Fernandes has a £57m release clause in his contract Many are talking about the potential for Fernandes to leave Man United as a free agent in the summer of 2027, but also potentially as a sale this summer to avoid him leaving on a free. However, recent updates suggest that Fernandes actually has a £57m release clause, meaning that European clubs could sign him without opposition from Man United in the summer. According to the Daily Mail, Man United will do everything to keep hold of Fernandes this summer, but due to the fact that he has a £56.6m release clause, it could mean that they have no choice. It is understood that only European clubs are able to activate the clause, but even so, it could be a huge issue for United. However, he does turn 32 in September, so the hefty release clause could put European clubs off. But, it certainly won’t be too steep for Saudi Pro League clubs such as Al-Hilal, who bid £100m for Fernandes last summer. He has made 27 Premier League appearances for Man United this season, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists. Former United captain Roy Keane has said that Fernandes is a crucial player, despite criticising him in the past. Keane said on Sky Sports last month: “I’ve been critical of Bruno over the years, but I’ve been proven wrong… his leadership is outstanding, and we know how brilliant he is as a player.” Click here to see Man United’s latest transfer news.
