Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens is “in England” ahead of his potential transfer to Man United, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
It is believed that the Belgian has now agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, but there are still several obstacles that could stop the transfer from being finalised.
Firstly, a transfer fee needs to be agreed with Antwerp, with the Pro League side said to be holding out for their €25m (£21.7m) asking price.
It should also be pointed out that Lammens is not the only keeper that Ruben Amorim’s side are pursuing.
United are in talks with Aston Villa
Emi Martinez did not start for the Villans against Crystal Palace on Sunday night as he is keen on securing a move to Old Trafford.
Like with Lammens, the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the keeper but his switch hinges on another transfer going ahead.
Jadon Sancho could move in the opposite direction to Villa Park, but if the winger doesn’t join the Midlands club, Martinez will not be heading to United.
What does this mean for Lammens?
Essentially, the Sancho deal will likely determine which team the Antwerp shot-stopper joins. If Villa do secure the services of the England international, they will sanction Martinez’s move.
If that happens, Lammens won’t be moving to Manchester, but Villa are interested in signing him as a replacement for Martinez.
For that reason, it is not a surprise to see that the 23-year-old is already in the country. He needs to be prepared to undergo a medical at either team over the coming hours if a transfer is agreed before the transfer window closes at 7pm. He is at the epicentre of one of the most complicated deals on deadline day.
