Manchester United are keeping tabs on Coventry City midfielder George Shepherd, according to reports.

The teenager has yet to make his senior debut for the Championship leaders but head coach Frank Lampard named him on the substitutes bench for the 2-0 win against Blackburn Rovers last weekend.

Shepherd’s style of play has been described as being very similar to how his current manager played in his playing days, and United In Focus claim that United believe he has the potential to be a top star in the future.

The Red Devils have reportedly been scouting the player at youth level, and they may step up their interest to secure the signature of one of the country’s brightest young talents.

4 other Premier League clubs are targeting Shepherd

Ruben Amorim’s side are by no means the only top-flight team who are monitoring the midfielder’s progress.

It is believed that Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa could also enter the battle for Shepherd’s services if he does decide to leave Coventry.

Man United have been strengthening their academy setup

There has been a change of focus since the appointment of Director of Football Jason Wilcox and Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell.

The emphasis has shifted towards signing young players, not only for the first team squad but for the academy as well.

Arsenal pair Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi have been brought in over the past 18 months, while wingback Diego Leon was recruited from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno back in July.

The Red Devils are also believed to have an agreement in place to buy young Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF when he turns 18 next year. The interest in Shepherd seems to be the latest example of this shift in approach.
