Man United first-team star who’s training with the squad every week now ‘highly unlikely’ to play for the club again

Despite being included in the matchday squad for Manchester United’s weekend win, Tyrell Malacia is reportedly ‘highly unlikely’ to play for the club again, as per Samuel Luckhurst. The Dutch international became the last-remaining member of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ last month when he failed to secure a summer move elsewhere. What happened with Malacia during the transfer window?(Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)Malacia was on the cusp of joining Spanish outfit Elche on loan for the season until the deal fell through at the very final stages due to disagreements over financial terms. He was then approached by Kayserispor, which would’ve seen him follow Andre Onana to Turkey, but he declined the move.As a result, the full-back was reintegrated into first-team training at Carrington, though he has yet to feature for the side in 2025/2026. 🚨📸 | Tyrell Malacia feeling the love from Manchester United players on Instagram. 🤝 pic.twitter.com/1OvOfgGqL1 — (fan) Frank 🧠🇵🇹 (@AmorimEra_) October 22, 2025Signed by Erik ten Hag in July 2022, Malacia only played for the manager throughout 2022/2023. Then, on the final day of the Premier League campaign, he sustained a knee injury that would keep him out of action for 18 months. When he returned to action, Ten Hag had been succeeded by Amorim, who was keen on adding a more attack-minded wing-back to his ranks – hence the eventual signing of Patrick Dorgu in January.Malacia overseeing his final season as a Red(Photo via MUFC’s official website)Malacia made eight appearances for Amorim in all competitions before he was shipped out on loan to PSV Eindhoven. He ended his stint with an Eredivisie winners’ medal to his name, but they opted against making his transfer permanent. The 26-year-old is now in the final eight months of his deal at Old Trafford and, while United do have the option of extending his stay by an additional 12 months via his one-year option, you’d imagine they’ll decide to call time on Malacia’s Red Devils tenure and allow him to explore a new venture as a free agent.
