Man United And Tottenham Bid £50m For Premier League Star Before Signing “Best Player” Bryan Mbeumo

BACK Dylan Oakley Oct 28th 2025 Man United and Tottenham both reportedly saw bids rejected for a different Premier League star before United signed Bryan Mbeumo.  The Red Devils are flying high at the moment, as they managed to win 4-2 against Brighton over the weekend, which was their third league win in a row. Goals in the game came from Matheus Cunha, Casemiro and Bryan Mbeumo, the latter netting twice. Mbeumo joined the Red Devils in the summer transfer window for a price of £65m from Brentford, and he has since been impressive for Ruben Amorim’s side. Since joining, the Cameroon international has made nine Premier League appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist. However, reports have emerged saying that before United went after the winger, they targeted a different Premier League player to play in Mbeumo’s position. Man United wanted Semenyo over Mbeumo In a surprise transfer update, the Telegraph have revealed that Bournemouth rejected a £50m bid from Manchester United for winger Antoine Semenyo in the summer transfer window, before the Red Devils went after Mbeumo. The report says that Spurs also saw a bid rejected for Semenyo, who has arguably been the best midfielder in the Premier League so far this season. The Bournemouth star has made nine league appearances, scoring six goals, and providing three assists. However, after United missed out on the Cherries’ attacker, they went after Mbeumo and signed him for £65m, a move that has proved to be a good decision by the United hierarchy. Rooney calls Mbeumo United’s “best player” After his stunning performance against Brighton on Saturday, Mbeumo has received a lot of praise from both his manager and pundits, suggesting that he is arguably the club’s best player, showing what a good signing he was. Former Man United striker Wayne Rooney was one such pundit. He admitted that he wasn’t aure when United first signed Mbeumo, but the Cameroon international has proven him wrong. Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show: “For me, he has been Manchester United’s standout player this season and he hasn’t got his rewards for his hard work and the sacrifices he’s made for the team throughout the season,” Rooney said on his own podcast. “I thought it was a great goal [against Liverpool], and, I’ll be honest, I was a bit sceptical when Manchester United signed him. I didn’t know if he had the ability to come and play for Manchester United, but he’s proved me wrong. I think he’s been a great addition to the team and by far United’s best player of the season.” Click here to see Man United’s upcoming fixtures and their position in the Premier League table.
