Malacia’s United nightmare could end imminently as Serie A giants open talks to sign him – Fabrizio Romano

Tyrell Malacia’s Manchester United nightmare could be nearing its end after a leading Italian club made contact over signing him, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

Malacia deemed surplus to requirements at United

Malacia has endured a tough time at United since joining the club from Feyenoord in the summer of 2022, as Erik ten Hag’s first signing

He enjoyed a decent debut campaign, helping the club end a six-year trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup. However, his progress was halted by a serious knee injury which kept him sidelined for 18 months.

Malacia made a return to action in November 2024 but was unable to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans. ‘

He was loaned out to Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven during the January transfer window but he was limited to just 12 appearances at the Philips Stadion.

Malacia is part of Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ – a group of five United players who have been exiled from the first team and were left out of the club’s pre-season plans. While Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Jadon Sancho have all attracted significant interest, Malacia has drawn far less.

However, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Atalanta have the 26-year-old on their list.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Roma are also eyeing Malacia, whose name popped up during club to club talks between them and United for Sancho.

Malacia could be headed to Serie A

Romano wrote on X, “EXCL: AS Roma make contact for Tyrell Malacia as left back option.”

“During talks with Man United for Sancho (no green light yet from Jadon), AS Roma also ask for Malacia deal conditions.”

“Tyrell, keen on the move; Besiktas also interested in the Dutch left back.”

It remains uncertain whether Roma are targeting Malacia on a loan basis or a permanent deal, as they are with Sancho. The Giallorossi recently submitted a bid to sign Sancho outright, and United will be hoping a similar scenario develops with Malacia.
