Major update on key duo emerges out of United’s training ground ahead of Sunday clash vs. Arsenal – Sky

Dutch duo Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee were reportedly absent from Manchester United training on Wednesday morning. De Ligt and Zirkzee injured Fresh from a dominant 2-0 victory over Manchester City, United now face another stern test, a trip to the Emirates to face league leaders Arsenal. A victory over the Gunners would be another statement win for Michael Carrick, who is aiming to guide the club to a top-four finish after an uncertain start to the season with Ruben Amorim. Carrick was not able to call on De Ligt and Zirkzee for the City game, with the pair both sidelined with injuries. De Ligt had been one of the club’s most consistent players in the early stages of the campaign, but his momentum was halted by a physical setback. De Ligt has not featured for United since the end of November due to a back issue, which appears to be more troublesome than initially thought. Speaking to reporters, Carrick expressed optimism that De Ligt will be back very soon. Meanwhile, Zirkzee missed the City game due to a knock picked up in the FA Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. His problem is not believed to be a serious one.
