Manchester United beat bitter rivals Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Senne Lammens 8.5 – Another impressive performance between the sticks. Big save in the first half to deny Alexander Isak and also closed down Mohamed Salah, who fired wide from an extremely dangerous position. Produced a number of other saves and claims in the second half to ensure United escaped Anfield with all three points. Hero!
Matthijs de Ligt 6.5 – Didn’t look out of place on the right side of the three-man defence system.
Harry Maguire 9 – Some good clearances and got his head to everything inside the box. Headed home late on to seal the victory for United.
Luke Shaw 6 – Did OK
Amad 8 – Fantastic assist for Bryan Mbeumo’s goal. Linked up well with Mbeumo on the right flank and also defended astutely. Could have had another assist when he set up Bruno Fernandes.
Casemiro 6 – Accomplished display. Used his experience well but had to be taken off after picking up a yellow card for a foul on Salah.
Bruno Fernandes 4 – Did well to hold on to the ball and pick out Amad in the build-up to the goal. Some nice passes, but he’ll be kicking himself for failing to score when Amad laid the ball off to him. Multiple mistakes in possession, sparking Liverpool attacks, but excellent delivery for the winning goal.
Diogo Dalot 3 – Just never looked convincing on the left. Lost Virgil van Dijk for a set-piece and kept getting caught out. Nearly cost United when his botched clearance only ended up in Isak’s path. Luckily for United, the Swede couldn’t get a good shot off.
Bryan Mbeumo 8 – Took his goal incredibly well to give United an early lead. A top-class finish. Combined superbly with Amad.
Mason Mount 5 – Quiet game and not very involved.
Matheus Cunha 6 – A number of surging runs in which he pushed United high up the pitch.
Substitutes
Manuel Ugarte 4 – Made no impact whatsoever in terms of shoring up the defence. Waste of a substitute.
Patrick Dorgu 4 – Disappointing cameo, marked by heavy touches and ineffective deliveries into the box.
Benjamin Sesko 5 – Didn’t have a chance to pounce on.
Leny Yoro 5 – On the pitch for the dying embers of the game. Helped United get over the line.
Kobbie Mainoo 5 – Same as Yoro.
