Rasmus Hojlund has privately conceded that Manchester United will push for his sale if they sign Benjamin Sesko in the coming days.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Danish international is now ‘resigned’ to being ‘forced out’ by INEOS – despite his public pleas to stay at Old Trafford long-term.
On more than one occasion Hojlund has expressed his desire to see out the summer window with United before vying for a starting spot next term, even if a striker is signed as his replacement before the season begins.
United to oppose Hojlund’s wishes and plan for his departure
Yet, it looks as though the matter will ultimately be taken out of his hands.
United are on the cusp of agreeing their mega-money acquisition of Sesko after it was revealed this morning that the player has chosen the Red Devils over Newcastle United.
The latter had tabled a more lucrative financial proposal to both the forward and RB Leipzig, whilst also allowing him to play in the Champions League next term, but the prospect of playing for the 20-time champions was too thrilling for Sesko to turn down.
As a result, he is preparing to put pen to paper on a five-year contract in M16, throwing Hojlund’s future into question.
Sesko’s arrival will pave the way for Hojlund to leave
Fabrizio Romano has already reported that Hojlund turned down the opportunity to join Leipzig in the Slovenian’s place in a direct swap deal, with Leipzig viewing him as a like-for-like replacement for their talisman.
It remains to be seen where else the 22-year-old can take his exploits, having already plyed his trade in his native Denmark, Austria, Italy and England.
Last campaign, he returned just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances – six fewer than the 10 he recorded in his maiden season.
