“Long standing issue”: INEOS’ stance on Mainoo situation emerges after recent meeting, it will surprise fans – report

Kobbie Mainoo continues to be linked with an exit from Manchester United, after growing unhappy with his lack of minutes this season.

His start came against Grimsby Town, a match which the Red Devils ended up embarrassingly losing, with the Englishman struggling to impress.

INEOS have been in discussions with the midfielder, hoping to sort out his future, with the 20-year-old seeking a loan exit so that he can make the national team squad ahead of the World Cup.

Naturally, lots of teams, including from the Premier League as well as all across Europe are interested in the Carrington wonderkid.

Mainoo attracting a lot of interest

Fans have criticised Amorim and INEOS for their current stance, and now journalist Andy Mitten has revealed United’s thought-process behind the midfield talent.

As per the trustworthy journalist, United feel Kobbie Mainoo should do more to win over the coach considering he is a homegrown talent.

Also, they do not want to repeat the mistakes of the past when the club opted to reward youngsters too soon, and that resulted in a dip in form and eventual departure.

It is well known that contract talks between the club and player are at a deadlock at present, with the youngster demanding a heft pay rise while the co-owners are reluctant to agree to such demands.

“United’s view is that he’s under contract, needs to work hard, fight for his place and prove his coach wrong.

INEOS’ stance revealed

“United are also trying to address long standing issues of overpaying young players before they’ve reached their potential.”

INEOS stance is not wrong as an academy product should strive to fight for the badge even more than players who have signed for the club as they are aware of the ethos and culture of the club.

This is the first real challenge in the Englishman’s still nascent career, and talk of him leaving would set a bad example.

It makes a lot of sense. But whether Mainoo himself sees the situation in this light will be interesting to see.

United take on Burnley on Saturday, and a clearer picture of where he stands in the pecking order will emerge once Amorim names his starting XI for the game.
