Lionesses fight back to reach final

Ella Toone and Grace Clinton were involved, as England launched another remarkable comeback to reach the Euro 2025 final.
The holders, who recovered from two goals down to beat Sweden on penalties in the quarter-finals, seemed to have run out of luck against Italy in Geneva.
Barbara Bonansea finished from close range after 33 minutes and the resolute Italians were good value for their lead, as they kept the Lionesses at arm’s length for much of the second half.
But Sarina Wiegman’s substitutions paid off yet again, with Michelle Agyemang remaining composed to force the ball home in the sixth minute of added time, after Italy goalkeeper Laura Giuliani spilled Lauren Hemp’s cross.

A tense period of extra time ensued, with Clinton joining team-mate Toone – who played the full 120 minutes – in midfield.
Agyemang came close to scoring her second of the game, when clipping the crossbar after a fine individual run.
But it looked like spot-kicks would settle another England tie, until Emma Severini upended Beth Mead in the box.
The referee had no option but to point to the spot, leaving Chloe Kelly with the chance to send England into a third straight major tournament final.
Kelly’s initial effort was palmed away by Giuliani, but the Arsenal forward would not be denied, as she arrived in front of Toone to convert at the second time of asking and put the seal on another dramatic evening in Switzerland.

Sunday’s showpiece event takes place at Basel’s St-Jakob Park, with kick-off set for 20:00 BST.
It will either be a rematch of the Euro 2022 final, or the 2023 World Cup decider, with Germany and Spain battling it out for the right to take England on.
Good luck to Ella, Grace and Maya Le Tissier, who was an unused substitute for the Lionesses.
