Leipzig inform United they will sanction Sesko’s record-breaking sale only on one condition – David Ornstein

Manchester United have accelerated their efforts to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

United headed into the summer transfer window prioritising the signing of a new striker on the back of a frustrating campaign. Among the non-relegated Premier League sides, only Everton scored fewer goals than the Red Devils in the Premier League last season.

However, Ineos are yet to hand Ruben Amorim a new goalscorer to spearhead his revamped attack, having missed out on the likes of Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres, and Hugo Ekitike.

Early this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have narrowed down their search for a number nine to Ollie Watkins and Sesko.

RB Leipzig lay down their demands for Sesko

Now, The Athletic claim United are prioritising a move to sign the Slovenian sensation, who is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising strikers.

The 6’5″ phenom, known for his physical and technical prowess, is highly rated by United’s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell, who seems to be driving the pursuit.

It is understood that United have made “informal contact” with Leipzig to understand Sesko’s situation.

David Ornstein reveals that the Bundesliga giants are “seeking a fee of €75million plus add-ons as well as a sell-on percentage for any deal for Sesko.” This would make him their biggest sale in the attacking department.

Ornstein adds that Leipzig have already communicated their demands to Sesko’s suitors. The 22-year-old’s deal at the Red Bull outfit runs until the summer of 2029.

Leipzig’s asking price should lead to hard negotiations, as United reportedly believed “a transfer could be possible for closer to €70m (£60.5m).”

Sesko’s desire could hand Man United a major advantage

Newcastle United are also keen on signing Sesko amid question marks over Alexander Isak’s future.

As per journalist Ben Jacobs, both clubs “feel player buy-in will put them in a stronger position.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also looking at alternatives, as “the feeling inside the club is that Sesko is likely to go to Manchester United.” The Mancunians have been on his trail since the days of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
