A crucial detail has emerged regarding Andre Onana’s loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

Onana’s future at United looked bleak as soon as the new season kicked off, with Altay Bayindir seemingly cemented as Ruben Amorim’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Onana sat out pre-season with a hamstring injury, raising concerns among the coaching and medical staff over his fitness levels.
Despite being fit for the opening clash against Arsenal, he was left out of the matchday squad entirely. He returned to the squad for the subsequent game at Craven Cottage vs. Fulham, but Amorim opted for Bayindir between the sticks once more.
Onana started in United’s humiliating EFL Cup loss to Grimsby Town, where he was at fault for both first-half goals before managing to save just one of the 13 penalties faced in the shootout.
His fate was all but sealed after United snapped up Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Trabzonspor, who have been on the hunt for a shot-stopper, tabled a proposal for Onana. This was accepted by United, who left it to Onana to make the final decision.
The 29-year-old gave the green light and earlier this evening, Fabrizio Romano revealed that a full agreement has been struck for Onana to join Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.
Now, it has emerged that Onana stands to earn significantly more at Trabzonspor than he would have at United – a factor that likely influenced his decision to approve the move.

This information has been corroborated by Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, who notes, “Andre Onana has agreed a season-long loan at Trabzonspor. United keeper will get a pay rise at the Turkish club.”
