When Manchester United’s players were battling against Rangers in their Europa League game on Thursday, the cameras panned to Marcus Rashford sitting with a dejected expression in one of the hospitality boxes of Old Trafford.
The Mancunian has now gone without seeing a single minute of action for over a month now since being dropped from the Manchester derby matchday squad.
He has since come out and publicly revealed his desire to try a new adventure and must have done so after being convinced by his camp that quite a few suitors would come for his signature.
However, the window has taught him a few harsh lessons. The Englishman spurned the advances of AC Milan recently in the hope of landing up at Barcelona.
Landing spots decreasing by the day for Rashford
However, the Catalan giants have so far not managed to make space for him in the squad while Borussia Dortmund have also been priced out of a move.
And INEOS will also not allow the Carrington graduate to link-up with a direct domestic rival, which means a landing spot for him looks hard to find with eight days left to go in the window.
Miguel Delaney of The Independent has claimed in his newsletter that Juventus are prepared to take a punt on the 27-year-old who is open to the six-month loan agreement but his heart remains set on moving to the Camp Nou in the summer.
“With so much of his contract left, though, Rashford only wants to pick a club that is right for him and where he can compete. He had no interest in going to any of the English suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.
“Borussia Dortmund had at one point been seen as a likely destination but that prospect has fallen away. Juventus are currently the only club seen as potentially completing a loan deal this January. Rashford would be open to that, as he waits for first-choice Barcelona in the summer.”
Juventus a potential option
Amorim is also not sure whether the England international will be at the club beyond the January window with the forward spotted in first-team training recently.
The player’s camp has revealed that there has not been any fall-out between the United No 10 and Amorim, possibly trying to repair the damage in case an exit does not materialise.
The Portuguese tactician’s system does not really have space for wingers and with Rashford’s reluctance to play up front, he might not see too many minutes even if he does end up staying.
The best-case scenario for INEOS will be for the Englishman to move out on loan, regain his form so that they can sell him for a higher fee in the summer with all of it set to constitute pure profit, a huge boon given the club’s PSR woes.
