Judging by the way the summer transfer window is playing out, it does feel like Manchester United are looking to move heaven and earth to sign a new number nine this summer without actually landing on a preferred target.
Since the beginning of the summer transfer window, the club has been linked with a number of potential strikers, but things haven’t panned out on the negotiations front.
With not long left to go for the new season, Man Utd need to get a deal over the line.
One of the many strikers Man Utd are interested in is RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.
The Slovenian striker has made waves in Bundesliga with his performances in recent times and has earned comparisons to Erling Haaland.
Earlier, it was believed, as per Christian Falk, that Sesko would cost around £77.5m this summer. Now, it looks like Man Utd will be able to sign him for a £16.9m discount, with his new asking price, as per the same journalist, said to be £60.6m.
As quoted by Caught Offside, here is what Falk had to say:
“The striker (22) is still very, very young. He can leave with a good offer; I think Leipzig are willing to talk if they receive a fee closer to €70m [£60.6m].”
This must come as a massive boost for Man Utd. Despite a number of young strikers going around, Sesko seems to be one with the highest ceiling for anyone not named Erling Haaland.
It is a surprise that he hasn’t yet been picked up this summer.
The journalist has mentioned that RB Leipzig are ready to sell the player this summer and in that case, all Man Utd have to do is try and reach an agreement with the player.
Sesko would be the perfect kind of player that Ruben Amorim wants.
The only concern would be the fact that Man Utd don’t have European football to offer to the 22-year-old this season.
However, if the Red Devils can get the young Slovenian to buy into their project, this transfer might still happen. Let’s wait and see how things play out.
