Beyond potential arrivals, Manchester United may also have to contend with a few departures in January. One player eager to move on is Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutch striker has found game time hard to come by under Ruben Amorim this season. Although he has featured five times for United, each appearance has been limited to brief cameos in matches already decided. His lack of minutes has cost him a place in the Netherlands national team squad, with Ronald Koeman opting for other attacking options. With the FIFA World Cup looming next summer, the United No.11 is growing increasingly concerned. If his situation does not improve, he risks missing out on representing his country on football’s grandest stage. Determined to turn things around and prove to Koeman that he deserves a seat on the plane to America, Zirkzee is now pushing for a January exit. Interest from clubs has already begun to surface, with AS Roma among those keen. Over the weekend, The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting Roma believe United are open to discussing a loan deal with an option to buy for their summer 2024 signing. Now, in a fresh update on the Zirkzee-to-Roma links, Corriere dello Sport reveal the striker has “made it clear” he wants to move to the Stadio Olimpico. Zirkzee: Why Roma? The Italian outlet, while revealing the player’s stance, went on to shed light on why the 24-year-old is drawn to the Giallorossi. They write: “Roma will offer him not only a starting spot, but also the chance to work with a coach like Gasperini, known for developing young strikers. “For Zirkzee, it’s also a chance to regain his physical and mental team ambitions ahead of the next World Cup.” Zirkzee to Roma, a transfer to Watch Whether United and Roma can strike a deal remains to be seen. There have been murmurs that the 20-time English champions have informed the striker that he will not be allowed to leave in January. Still, given what is at stake, it is easy to understand Zirkzee’s desire to move on if he continues warming the bench. Having previously impressed in Italy with Bologna, it is worth revisiting familiar territory. Roma could be the perfect platform for him to rebuild and rediscover his best form.
