‘It wasn’t his best game’: Amorim confirms he held private talks with Man Utd man after Palace ‘struggles’

(Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images) Ruben Amorim has confirmed he had a chat with Leny Yoro to gauge where his head was at following a disheartening Crystal Palace shift.Despite Manchester United completing an emphatic second-half turnaround to claim all three points at Selhurst Park over the weekend, the youngster’s afternoon was plagued by his early mistake that led to Palace opening the scoring. What happened with Yoro vs the Eagles?(Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)Yoro lunged into a challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta just inside the area, prompting referee Rob Jones to point to the spot almost instantaneously. The Palace talisman subsequently converted the penalty – albeit at the second time of trying due to a double-touch resulting in a retake.Amorim opted to withdraw Yoro from the action in the 54th minute, and he was later seen slumped on the bench with his hands over his face, evidently aggrieved at how his appearance had panned out. (Photo via Prime Video)Post-match, the 20-year-old cut a subdued figure as the squad approached the away end to applaud the travelling supporters, although Mason Mount was there to offer an arm around the shoulder along with some words of encouragement in Yoro’s ear.Amorim weighs in on Yoro mistake(Photo via Man Utd’s official website)When pressed on the incident in his press conference this afternoon, Amorim said of his defender:  “I spoke with him because he made a mistake and struggles. “He wants to do everything so well. He’s growing with games and setbacks. It’s not easy for a young guy. He knows it wasn’t his best game.”It remains to be seen if the Frenchman will retain his place for the visit of West Ham tomorrow night, or whether he could benefit from a reduced cameo to ensure he’s feeling fully confident before being deployed from the off again.
