Manchester United icons Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt have revealed where they stand on a possible managerial return for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Ruben Amorim not entirely safe at United
Although the 2-0 victory over Sunderland before the October international break eased some of the pressure on him, it’s evident that Ruben Amorim’s position remains far from secure.
Amorim has been in the spotlight amidst United’s underwhelming start to the season. Following the defeat to Brentford, speculation intensified about his future, with several possible replacements emerging.
Some of the names mentioned included Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola and Michael Carrick (on an interim basis).
Sir Jim Ratcliffe came out and made it clear that Amorim will be given at least three years to make it work at United. However, if the team fails to be consistent, this faith will be tested.
A fan poll by The Peoples Person revealed that the majority of supporters would prefer Solskjaer to return over any other former United manager.
Now, Scholes and Butt have shared their thoughts on the matter, though both appear uncertain whether a Solskjaer return would truly benefit either United or the Norwegian himself.
Scholes and Butt’s verdict on Solskjaer return
Asked whether he would take Solskjaer back at United, Scholes answered, “Tough question. There are a few names that have been mentioned that haven’t done enough.”
Butt added, “The tough thing for Ole is if you come back a second time, it could ruin him.”
“It won’t, because of his legacy at the football club, but you could bring prime Sir Alex or Jose at the moment and they wouldn’t be able to do anything with that squad.”
“For me I hope it wouldn’t happen, purely because if he got asked to do it, he would do it because of his love for the club.”
“And we all would, but I wouldn’t like to see it end bad for him.”
Solksjaer has been out of a job since August, when he was sacked by Besiktas after their elimination from the Europa Conference League.
