Manchester United are confirmed to be among a host of suitors sizing up a move for Elliot Anderson in 2026.Indeed, after several weeks of being tentatively linked with Anderson, Sky Sports now reports that United are keen on signing Nottingham Forest’s coveted midfielder.Florian Plettenberg claims their ‘interest has already been registered’, with Forest ‘aware’ that both the Red Devils and Newcastle United, Anderson’s former club, are ‘closely monitoring’ his situation. 🚨🆕 Manchester United and Newcastle are just two of many top clubs closely monitoring Elliot #Anderson. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images)Meanwhile, Forest are said to value the 22-year-old in the region of £100-120 million. They signed him from the Magpies for £35 million last July, and it was believed at the time that Newcastle were cornered into facilitating their academy graduate’s sale to give themselves more room for manoeuvre around the Profit and Sustainability Regulations. It is likely, however, that the Midlands outfit would have to settle for a lower fee in the event they drop back down to the Championship come May next year. They are currently 18th in the Premier League table on just five points after winning only one game in 2025/2026 thus far.Forest are also already on their third manager of the campaign; Evangelos Marinakis pulled the plug on Nuno Espirito Santo’s tenure on September 9 before granting Ange Postecoglou 39 days to try and turn the side’s fortunes around. When he was unable to do so in the handful of games he managed, Sean Dyche was called upon to succeed him at The City Ground. Why Anderson might favour a return to TynesideAnderson likely feels as though he has unfinished business at St. James’ Park. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images)Such uncertainty won’t be doing the players any favours, especially as most of them navigate their first season with European football to account for.Unfortunately for Ruben Amorim, Anderson may favour a return to his boyhood club if he does indeed depart Forest next summer. The former Scotland youth international, now capped four times for England, was spotted in Newcastle’s end for the Carabao Cup final in March, and he’s never shied away from his love for his former employers.
