Injury update: Ever-present United star received treatment on right knee vs Everton, doubtful for Ipswich clash – report

Manchester United could be dealt another major injury blow with Noussair Mazraoui picking up a knee injury during the game against Everton on Saturday.

The Moroccan seemed to pick up a knock quite early on in the game during an innocuous aerial challenge. However, he stayed on till the 70th minute before being replaced by Leny Yoro.

As ESPN have now revealed, Ruben Amorim initially wanted to bring off Matthijs de Ligt instead of the right-back but was forced to bring off Mazraoui instead.

He received treatment on his right knee in the dressing room and now tests will be carried out to ascertain the exact nature of the injury.

Knee injury

“Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of Noussair Mazraoui ahead of their game against Ipswich Town, a source has told ESPN.

“Mazraoui picked up an injury to his knee during the 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday. He is set to undergo further tests on Monday before a decision is made on whether he can feature against Ipswich at Old Trafford on Wednesday.”

The 27-year-old has been an ever-present member of the backline under the Portuguese, starting all but two games for the new head coach.

Only three United players — André Onana, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have played more league minutes for the 20-time English league champions than the former Bayern Munich star.

Huge blow for Amorim

The Morocco international has always been injury-prone in his earlier clubs, with the player missing more than 40 games in the last two years at Bayern.

Should he miss out, it will be a huge blow for Amorim who is already without Amad and Lisandro Martinez, both of whom are out for the season.

Kobbie Mainoo is out till April while Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Toby Collyer, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans are also sidelined at the moment.

United’s next game against Ipswich Town is a potential six-pointer as the Old Trafford giants look to steer clear of a relegation scrap and Amorim needs all the help he can get at this stage.
