Manchester United are reportedly not going to be an “obstacle” if Bruno Fernandes decides to leave the club for a move to Saudi Arabia.
Ruben Amorim continues to insist Fernandes is not going anywhere, as the Portuguese head coach relied heavily on his captain throughout the season.
Fernandes notched 19 goals and 20 assists in all competitions in a season where the majority of his teammates downed the tools.
However, the same exploits have seemingly convinced Al Hilal that Fernandes would be a perfect marquee signing for them. And there’s a feeling that United, despite Amorim’s strong stance, are not going to make things difficult for Saudi Arabia in this pursuit.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the 30-year-old’s agent held “face-to-face” talks with Al-Hilal officials, who are prepared to hand the attacking midfielder a contract proposal worth £200 million.
Now, ESPN claim Al Hilal and Saudi deal makers “believe there is a chance United will accept a mega offer” for their talisman.
ESPN journalist Rob Dawson suggests that the Premier League giants are not seen as an “obstacle” by his suitors and “it’s simply about convincing Bruno Fernandes.”
However, Fernandes does not have plenty of time to make a final decision on his future as the Riyadh outfit want to sign the midfielder within the next fortnight so that he can feature for them at the Club World Cup in June.
With no European football for the first time since 2014-15, United’s finances have become a major concern for INEOS, who are battling to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
As such, despite Fernandes’ importance, a significant transfer fee, expected to be in the region of £100m, would greatly help Amorim revamp his squad.
United have already agreed a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers’ playmaker Matheus Cunha, but Amorim wants another wide playmaker, and has allegedly set his sights on Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
The Red Devils are also desperate for a new striker, as Rasmus Hojlund has proven to be a liability and is certainly not ready to spearhead the side’s attack.
