Incredible 26-yo star holds talks with Amorim over summer transfer, United boss will not like his demands – report

Manchester United could lose Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal if they fail to secure Champions League football.

United are heading into the second leg clash of their Europa League semi-final tie with Athletic Club with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

The Bilbao outfit travel to Old Trafford without their best players, including Oihan Sancet, Nico Williams, and Dani Vivian. Still, considering the Red Devils’ inconsistent showings across the season, one could not confidently say that this tie is over.

Further, United are very likely to face Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the competition. Spurs have also endured a difficult campaign but the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League should lead to an intense and nervy affair in Bilbao later in May.

With their European fate still uncertain, United are currently trailing Arsenal in the race for Sporting CP’s Gyokeres.

According to The Telegraph, the Mancunians are interested in the Sweden international, but he is expected to prioritise Arsenal over them.

The North Londoners are also in the market for a new striker and have set their sights on the 26-year-old, who has established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific attackers.

Gyokeres has an incredible 52 goals to his name in 49 appearances this season. Interestingly, Sporting are showing a willingness to part ways with their talisman without much fight.

It was Ruben Amorim who handed the Swede an opportunity to show his goalscoring prowess at the highest level, signing him from Championship side Coventry City in 2023.

The report claims the pair have a good relationship, but Gyokeres “has told Amorim he would consider joining United only if he is guaranteed Champions League football.”

Late in April, Amorim underlined that he would not sign a player whose primary interest is in playing in the Champions League.

Gyokeres isn’t the only number nine on United’s radar. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Old Trafford outfit are interested in Fiorentina’s Moise Kean.
