“I spoke with the board”: “Embarrassed” Amorim reveals crisis talks with United bosses after humiliating West Ham loss

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted that he is “embarrassed” amidst the club’s miserable season, as he also revealed that he held talks with the top brass.

This comes after United’s latest loss at the hands of West Ham on Sunday. Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen scored in either half to condemn United to their 17th Premier League loss of the campaign, nine of which have come at home.

The result left United in 16th place  – just two positions above the relegation zone. It also means that the Red Devils have yet to hit 40 points, with only two games to play. Even if United were to win their final two matches, they can finish no higher than 13th, which is five positions worse than their previous lowest finish – eighth in 2023/24.

Since Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November last year, he has taken charge of 25 games. The Portuguese coach has managed just six wins in that period.

After the final whistle vs. West Ham, Amorim expressed doubts about his future at Old Trafford if performances and results don’t dramatically improve.

Earlier today, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United will “review” Amorim’s position in the summer, even if he wins the Europa League.

Now, in a new interview with Sky Sports, Amorim has accepted that there is something seriously wrong within his squad, but he remains confident that he is the right man to lead the club to success.

“First off, I’m really embarrassed, in 25 games to win just six. Something is wrong in the way we play football.”

“Sometimes it’s not about the way we play…tactically or technically, it is the way we face competition, the way we suffer, the way we get mad because we are losing. These things we need to improve.”

“It’s not just inside the pitch, it’s outside the pitch. That feeling I’m talking about – to fight until the end, the way we face competition. It’s not OK to lose, it’s not OK to draw.”

He continued, “That feeling is not about confidence, it’s about the belief and understanding that we are Manchester United. We don’t want to be the worst in the league and our position is unacceptable.”

“For me that is not about a lack of confidence. It’s something more profound.”

“I spoke with the board, with everybody – even the fans in every moment. I have a clear feeling I know what this team needs to be so much better. That helps me to maintain that level, not get so low or too high.”

United are back in action on Friday when they make their way to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
