“I have no idea why”: Ferdinand and Savage tear into United star after horror show against Ipswich

Manchester United’s Andre Onana has been heavily criticised by TNT pundits Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Savage.

The Cameroonian keeper started the season relatively well, keeping a few clean sheets and won the save of the month against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in September.

Nonetheless, since Ruben Amorim has become manager, the goalkeeper’s form has dropped immensely. He has made some huge mistakes and been generally poor.

He made two big errors that led to goals against Brighton and Hove Albion last month and he was also responsible for the two efforts United conceded yesterday.

A poor mix-up between Patrick Dorgu and himself resulted in Ipswich scoring into an empty net and the second goal drifted into the bottom corner when he failed to track the flight of a seemingly standard ball into the box.

On commentary for TNT Sports (via The Daily Mail), Savage was in shock at what he had just seen when the Tractor Boys grabbed an early lead after just four minutes of action.

Describing the goal he stated, “Wow. Dorgu has tracked the run and the communication between Onana and Dorgu must be non-existent.”

“Credit to Jaden Philogene, the desire… he’s onside. But I’ve got no idea why Onana is running out to that position. Dorgu has got it under control, no problem at all. He shouldn’t come there, Onana!”

Whilst laying more blame at the feet of Dorgu, Rio Ferdinand also echoed Savage’s concern over the keeper and said, “a terrible start. I don’t think Dorgu, at any moment, looks up to sees where Onana is.”

“Onana doesn’t need to come in. The full-back is in complete control and he can just hold his ground and let him play it back to him. But Dorgu doesn’t look, the awareness isn’t there and it’s pounced on. Ipswich took a deserved lead for pouncing on that lack of communication.”

Former Man United goalkeeper Tim Howard also singled Onana out for his poor keeping when United drew with Everton last weekend.

It was also relayed by The Peoples Person that United’s coaching staff are growing more “concerned” by Onana’s performances and that head coach, Ruben Amorim, has no “loyalty” to the former Ajax keeper and may look to replace him in the summer, as his patience is wearing thin with his erratic displays.

Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
