“I don’t get it”: Gary Neville urges United to avoid deal that simply doesn’t make sense

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has insisted that a potential swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku will only benefit Chelsea.

Garnacho’s future at United is still uncertain ahead of transfer deadline day on February 3.

Chelsea are an interested party in Garnacho and there has been speculation that the Blues will make a formal offer for him very soon.

On Saturday, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that United and Chelsea were considering a swap arrangement that would see Nkunku arrive at Old Trafford with Garnacho going the other way.

Plettenberg indicated that no final decision was made but the matter was under consideration.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United asked to be kept informed of any developments regarding Nkunku’s future.

Speaking on NBC Sport, Neville weighed in on the situation and voiced his opposition to such a transfer getting over the line.

The eight-time Premier League winner said, “I don’t get it for United. Nkunku’s hardly kicked a ball, he’s had the injury when he first came and struggled to get going at Chelsea.”

“I’m not saying Garnacho is the best player in the world, he needs to stay at Manchester United, but if they get good money for him that might work.”

“But to swap him for Nkunku, I would have to say that isn’t a move I would do if I was Manchester United.”

Neville added, “I can see why you would do it if you were Chelsea.”

Napoli are also pursuing a move for Garnacho but their sporting director recently warned that they will not be held to ransom over his asking price, as United continue to demand for £60m.
