“I believe in me”: Red-hot United star explains how his current mindset is helping deliver excellence every week

Manchester United came away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium with all three points as they edged past Everton 1-0 on Monday night. This was United’s fifth win out of six since Michael Carrick‘s arrival, and their unbeaten run now has them in fourth position in the Premier League table, only three points behind Aston Villa. The caretaker head coach has mostly been spot-on with his team selections, but he did miss a trick by not starting the in-form Benjamin Sesko against the Toffees. With the home side having tall defenders, Bryan Mbeumo hardly got any joy out of them. Carrick’s early second half change ultimately proved to be the difference. Super sub Benjamin Sesko to the rescue yet again The Slovenian came on and within 15 minutes of his introduction, he stroked home United’s winner after a brilliant ball from Matheus Cunha to start the counter-attack. He now has six goals in his last seven appearances, and it is becoming more and more difficult for Carrick to ignore him. Despite not starting a game under the new coach, the former RB Leipzig star does not seem to mind, explaining to Sky Sports that he is ready to contribute whenever Carrick feels fit. “For me, it’s important whenever I come on to try and help the team. That is why I’m here. Whether that is five minutes or 90 minutes, it doesn’t really matter. It’s about showing I can deliver if I possibly can and I’m really happy with that.” His belief in himself is impressive He is only 22, and given his price tag, doubts are bound to arise in his mind especially when the head coach does not select him from the start. But he has not let these thoughts affect him one bit, and he had faith in his abilities to turn the tide after coming on. “I believe in me and so do the other players as well. They know what they are going to get when I arrive in the game. It’s up to me to deliver of course.” Benjamin Sesko is showing maturity beyond his years, both on and off the pitch. Now for him to make another mark when Crystal Palace come to Old Trafford next Sunday. Hopefully, on that day, he will be get the chance to make an impact from the get go.
