Manchester United welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on Monday 30 December, for a Premier League clash that will hopefully turn our fortunes around.
Since our triumph over crosstown rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month, we’ve fallen to consecutive league defeats to AFC Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Magpies’ visit therefore offers a shot at redemption, and an opportunity to finish the year on a positive note.

TEAM NEWS
Ruben Amorim will not have either Bruno Fernandes or Manuel Ugarte at his disposal for this meeting. The former received two yellow cards in our clash against Wolves, leading to a one-match suspension which will be served on Monday, and the latter will also be absent, after accumulating five yellow cards across the first half of the season.
The suspended pair will join Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw, who miss this fixture through injury, on the sidelines.
The visitors currently look set to be without the services of Nick Pope (knee), Emil Krafth (shoulder), Jamaal Lascelles (knee), Sven Botman, Tino Livramento (illness) and Callum Wilson (thigh).
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Our last meeting with the Magpies came towards the end of last season, and delivered a 3-2 victory for the Reds just 10 days before our memorable FA Cup triumph over Manchester City.
A young trio of Kobbie Mainoo, Amad and Rasmus Hojlund were the goalscorers that day, and there were heroics from Casemiro at the other end, when the Brazilian marginally cleared one off the line with his head – an action that would prove crucial to United’s win on the day.
Amad, who also set up our opener, was the pick of the bunch however, thanks to a sweet, first-time strike after a corner, which left the goalkeeper with little hope of reaching it.
It’s been over a decade since Newcastle beat Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League – the only time they’ve managed to do so since the top flight’s rebrand in 1992 – so history is on our side, but Amorim will want his charges to keep a close eye on one man, in particular: Anthony Gordon, who scored in both meetings last season and has started the 2024/25 campaign strongly.
