How our fans inspire Garnacho to aim high

Alejandro Garnacho believes that, with the Manchester United fans behind him, he can aspire to follow in the footsteps of some of the club’s famous wide players of the past.

The Argentina international has already crammed a lot into his career, with his 21st birthday not until July, and feels inspired by the support and backing he receives, home and away, from the Reds’ supporters.

Some of our most popular performers over the years have been precociously talented wingers, who were direct and loved to entertain, getting the crowd excited with their dribbling skills and adventure.

The names of the likes of George Best, Steve Coppell and Ryan Giggs live long in the memory for people of various generations, and Garnacho is just as determined to keep working hard and developing his game in order to fulfil his undoubted potential.

Alejandro Garnacho describes his playing style in detail and what he hopes to achieve at United…

“It is amazing to be part of that and I want to do something similar,” he said, in response to a question from United Review about the fans’ adoration for previously skilful wide players.

“They’re legends and they have done amazing things in their career. I want to be a legend at this club and to improve, week on week, to be an important figure here.”

It has been a largely successful time for the 20-year-old of late. He passed 100 senior appearances for the club recently and was presented with our Player of the Month award for October, as voted by the fans in our Official App and on ManUtd.com.

The Academy graduate admits he loves seeing supporters wearing his shirt and appreciates their backing gives him the fuel to keep attacking full-backs and endeavouring to make things happen at the sharp end of the pitch.

“Yeah, the truth is that I feel really connected to the fans,” he said in the United Review exclusive. “They always support us – win or lose. I have lots of admiration for how our fans are.

“For example, when we attack or have a chance, the fans shout and encourage us and that motivates you to continue and continue to try to score. Our fans are amazing.

“It always fills me with pride when I see people with my name on their shirt so I keep giving the best I can for the club.”
